About us
For six years I wrote a popular outdoors column for the Yellowstone County News. Many folks sent emails, visited, or called to say how much they enjoyed the writeups. It was fun and an effective way to share what I knew or came across regarding the outdoors and the critters that inhabit there.
After continuous fan prompting and with my strong desire to share outdoor adventures, son Mikel set up a Critters Outdoors blog for me on his Internet site. Since early 2024 we have been experimenting with content and procedures to continue the writeups people enjoy. The writeups are folksy, enhanced with pictures or video and posted each week.
Mikel and I have added some new twists. In the olden days I relied on my old journals, magazine writeups and other ‘flashback’ things like 35 mm pictures and awkward camcorders. Nowadays we have gone to the use of digital photography and videography along with the use of drones.
It has opened new ways to share 84 years of experience. Long distance Nikon P 1000 cameras allow me to get good pictures of elusive birds, animals, reptiles, and insects that were not possible before. Sharing details about and of wildlife is much better. Using drones to take stand off digital pictures without scaring the critters is a dream come true.
Both sharing and the chance to use creative ‘juices’ are wonderful for having something useful to give others in my old age and has been very satisfying.
